Push Start to Begin

I have great experience in the ability to waste time. While attempting to compose this very blog, I sat in front of my television shooting zombies with machine guns in Call of Duty: Black Ops for several hours. Don't even get me started on Facebook's Farmville and ESPNu College Town. I am currently in my fourth year of college, working towards a mathematics degree with a certification in teaching. While born in Houston, I grew up and have spent most of my life in Austin, Texas. This parasite of wasting time is especially prevalent in college towns such as where I attend school at Texas A&M University.

I often find myself imagining a world free from procrastination. Work and assignments get done on time. No late nights filled with energy shots, coffee and coca cola or caffeine hangovers caused by spending all day playing Halo or World of Warcraft when you should have been studying. What if people actually did what they were supposed to do, when they were supposed to do it?  The amount of time spent on video games, Facebook, and similar technologies is incalculable.

This blog will focus on the art and the curse of wasting time. I will explore topics such as:
  • When and why do we waste time?
  • How does this affect our daily lives?
  • What are some of the many ways we waste time?
  • Who does this? Who are the biggest time wasters?
  • Is wasted time really wasted? What are we learning and what are the benefits?
  • How does this affect us on national and global levels?
  • Is this progressing with technology and each new generation? Will it be a bigger problem in the future?
  • What problems is this causing?
  • How do time wasters of today compare with those in the past? Did our fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers, etc. also waste time in similar ways?
  • What might the future hold for wasting time?
  • How does the world view wasting time?
  • What are some solutions to this problem? How can we learn time management?

  2. Daniel,

I'm not sure what your topic is. Are you writing about procrastination, or are you writing about how gaming can take over someone's life, time, and energy? I encourage you to revise your post so that it's clear that your blog will be considering X or Y. In either case, I'm interested to know what some of your anticipated subtopics will be. Consider drafting a few titles for subsequent posts, since organizing your blog a little bit at the outset will guard against reiterating the same points in subsequent posts, and will ensure a more cohesive assignment. Good luck!
